francoFranco Cangelli (Mowar, Seventh Sign, Persistencebit, Aesthetik, Sushitech)

Franco Cangelli stands for an uncompromising quality punch, spiked with motorcity soulfulness, Chicago jack while still gently pushing the envelope. Feel free to call his music deep techno, Detroit techno, deep house… he doesn’t really care about monikers anyway.

Hailing from Gent Belgium, he made his debut with the successful 2005 release Spectre on Belgian imprint Toys For Boys. Since then he went on to release on various labels such as Sushitech, Aesthetik, Seventh Sign, Persistencebit and his own imprint Mowar.

He co-founded with dj Akî Aesthetik Records back in 2006, to create a platform for techno with an edge. He’s currently focusing on his new imprint Mowar, on which he intends to continue releasing a quality blend of deep techno. Next to Mowar he’s also working on its evil sister label Nowar with his partner in crime Akî. Mowar is deep techno, Nowar is deep house.

As a dj he’s known to be versatile rocking the dancefloors with quality house and techno in all its elegant forms, from soulful Detroit techno, jacking Chicago house, sweet and hypnotic deep house to glitchy and experimental techno and anything in between. A ballad of electronic sounds suited to both the intimacy of small parties and the energy of big sweaty rooms.

His production works are equally multi-facetted resulting in a hybrid kind of techno or house cross-fertilizing Detroit and Chicago with modern-day electronics, occasionally exploring the dark leftfield side of things. Among his biggest influences you can find Carl Craig, Daniel Bell, Autechre and childhood hero Africa Bambaataa.

His last ep’s on Seventh Sign, Persistencebit and Mowar have received positive reactions worldwide and are being played by dj’s such as Russ Gabriel, Lawrence, DJ 3000, Dan Curtin, D’Julz or Laurent Garnier. And there are still more vinyls in the pipeline…
